Martha and Mary,
busy, and listening;
Each in her own way,
serving their friend.
When Martha grumbled,
Jesus was loving:
“No more resentment,
complaining must end.
Just at this moment,
Mary has chosen
what I need from her,
the better part.
You are distracted,
don’t be so worried;
Give what I long for,
offer your heart.”
We too are Martha,
We too are Mary;
Sometimes more active,
sometimes more still.
On each occasion,
God, we aspire to –
doing what’s needful,
choosing your will.
