At first I need to know
where the boundary is
between you and me.
Then second I would like to know
how near the boundary
you would be happy for me to get.
And thirdly once we’ve fixed the boundaries
Let’s be ready to unfix them
and refix them
and unfix them
and…
Till you and I agree on the absurdity
of these shadow lines that are
ghosts that haunt us without
mitigation and we can
exorcise them by pushing back time.
But then again
what if we find that as we
come closer and closer together
that we can agree
on the boundaries
and still loveeach other.
And maybe later we will sometimes let the boundary go
and sometimes be firm about where the boundary is
and sometimes retreat further from our boundaries.
But we will still love each other…
