God’s Servant
This time of year always reminds me of the time I was in Nazareth, many years ago.
I was just passing through… I noticed a bright light in one of nearby houses.
Just a small, simple house… but, a very bright light… I paused, and looked closer.
Was it? Could it be? Surely it was nothing else!
If I didn’t believe in angels before, I did then…
A young girl was listening to the angel – concern on her face.
She seemed to be explaining something… I couldn’t catch it… I edged closer…
I thought of intervening… but then I saw the girl – almost a child! – visibly relax…
The angel’s final words came to me clearly:
“For nothing will be impossible with God!”
The girl smiled. “I am God’s servant. Let it happen as you have said.”
As the angelic vision faded away,
it almost seemed as though the angel raised a hand in blessing…
but I couldn’t be sure…
I, too, faded away from the window.
To do otherwise would have been an intrusion.
That experience has stayed with me for a long time…
Well, to be honest, it changed my life!
I became more open to God, more open to God’s will for my life,
and certainly more open to the existence of angels…
